Psychological issues

4) Impulsiveness

The person who has impulsive behaviour may lack the control over the decisions they make or actions and words they use. This can be distressing for those around them if they are dis-inhibited or appear to react without thought or concern for those around them.

There may be safety issues as the persons actions maybe unpredictable on the spur of the moment with no regard for the consequences. Carers may need to try and predict risks in advance and minimise them. If the person is impulsive they may not be aware of this so discuss with them your concerns.  Give them examples of when they have done or said something to you which was not appropriate and why. By letting them know how this affected you, it may help them to realise the effect, change and may be adapt over time.
