You may or may not have connections with a faith community but they could be a means of offering you an alternative support or practical help you may not have considered before. In the community, faith groups offer a range of support from practical help to befrienders who volunteer to help in situations of need. They may have volunteers who have been in the same position as you and have been carers themselves. They may offer activities which are not necessarily faith based such as coffee mornings which are informal and a way to help you meet people and access the support you need. If it is difficult for you to take time away from the person you are caring for they may offer a befriender who can visit you.
Some carers will find comfort in the ritual and symbolism faith can offer. If the person or carer has contacts with a faith community they may need time to reassess their faith in a supported way following changes after stroke. This is a new situation for both of you.
