Visual Problems

1) Introduction

Visual problems after stroke are common and can be distressing.

Some visual problems will improve spontaneously but unfortunately some will not. It is advisable to wait at least six weeks after a stroke before having an eye test to allow time for the vision to recover.

Problems fall into three broad categories:

  • Problems with eye movements.
  • Problems with the visual pathways which transfer images from the eye to the brain.
  • Problems with the eye itself.
