Many small items of equipment can make tasks easier. Many carers purchase feeding, dressing or kitchen equipment themselves.<\/p>\n

Jar openers<\/strong>, non slip mats<\/strong> for plates,\u00a0long handled shoe horns<\/strong> or easy reachers<\/strong> to pick items up from the floor are all useful. Check if they can be ordered free of charge from your local authority by self referral before buying.<\/p>\n

There are several companies which offer online or mail order equipment.\u00a0Some areas in \u00a0Scotland have local shops where you can buy directly. Check your local telephone directory or yellow pages for shops which supply small personal equipment. Always get advice if you can.<\/strong> Equipment specifically for disabled people is usually VAT exempt and reputable retailers will be able to advise you on this.<\/p>\n
